Another nice photo shot on the HTC Click Android Smartphone

Leaked as HTC Click with Android OS this week, a vietnamese forum tinhte has a clearer photo of the entry level Android
smartphone. The big round pad at the middle does not look like a trackball. According to slashgear, the HTC Click share the same button layout as HTC Magic, but the track ball is changed to a Dpad instead. The HTC Click should feature the new Sense UI like the HTC Hero and could be released by Q4 this year.

New Google Maps 3.2 Adds Info Layers

Released for Symbian S60 and Windows Mobile phones, Google has updated its Google Maps for Mobile with version 3.2. The new version allows you to add many layers of information to your maps such as public transit, traffic condition, local search results, Latitude friend locations, Wikipedia and more.

Other than the layering feature, map search results can now be also displayed on the map as little red dots so that you could find the nearest location from the result map. To download the new version, you can visit this page, m.google.com/maps, from your mobile directly and follow the instruction.

New features

* ayers: Layers (’2′ shortcut key) allow you to view locations and additional info overlaid on the map. You can add multiple layers or remove only certain layers so you control exactly what information you want visible on the map at the same time. Familiar info now available as layers include search results, Traffic (with new traffic incident icons and info), Directions, and Google Latitude. New available layers include My Maps (view-only), Transit lines (w/upcoming station departure info where available), and Wikipedia.
* Browse categories: Browse popular categories from the Search menu to search the map for businesses or points of interest by type. Category searches are currently available only for results in the US and China.
* Additional search results: When you search the map, Maps for mobile will now show you additional search results beyond the top ten results. The additional results will appear as “dots” on the map that you can select to see more info. As you pan the map, more search results will appear. Just zoom in to select a specific dot if there are lots of results for your search.
* My Maps: Add the My Maps layer from the Layers menu and sign in to your Google Account to access your custom My Maps created and edited from your computer. My Maps are currently view-only from Google Maps for mobile. You cannot create or edit your My Maps.

Signing in to your Google Account

You may sign in to to your Google Account from Google Maps for mobile in order to access certain features such as My Maps. By signing in, you will be able to use features like Google Latitude or to access info linked to your Google Account from other places outside of Maps for mobile such as My Maps.

Signing out: Sign out of your Google Account in Maps for mobile at any time by selecting the option from the main menu. Once you sign out of your Google Account, you will no longer be able to access any features that require a Google Account such as My Maps or Google Latitude.

Google Latitude: Google Latitude is an opt-in feature that requires you to both explicitly join and to be signed in to your Google Account. You may sign in to your Google Account to use features like My Maps, but Latitude will not be enabled until you explicitly choose to join it from the main menu. Similarly, you may turn only Latitude off from its privacy menu and still remain signed in to your Google Account to use other Maps features that require your account. If you sign out of your Google Account entirely from the Maps main menu, all features that require your account will no longer be available, including Latitude.

Fixed issues

* Symbian S60: E61, E61i, and E62 devices: Shortcut keys work properly using the standard numeric shortcuts. Previously, shortcut keys were not working as intended on these devices.
* Windows Mobile: Copy and paste has been re-enabled for most text entry fields (Search, directions, and user name)

Troubleshooting

* Symbian S60
o N82 and N95 devices: we strongly encourage that you back up your device and consider upgrading to the latest device firmware version (see http://nokia.com/softwareupdate). A very small number of users report experiencing a device hang during installation, and we haven’t yet been able to reproduce this in the lab or determine the exact cause.
o For some S60 3rd ed. FP2 phones (Nokia 5320 XpressMusic, 6210 Navigator, 6220 Classic, 6650, N78, N79, N85, N96, N96-3), you may need to set a default destination using the following steps: Go to Settings > Connection > Destinations > Options > Default connection. Select “Internet” (if you have it) or whichever APN group you want it to use.
* Windows Mobile
o If you install Maps for mobile to your memory card instead of your device memory, you may experience issues due to a corrupt memory card or files. Please try a clean install using these instructions if you experience errors during installation:
1. Uninstall Maps for mobile by going to Settings > Systems > Remove Programs > Google Maps.
2. Do a soft reset / power off.
3. Delete any remaining files under “\Program Files\GoogleMaps” (if installed in the internal memory) or “\Storage Card\Program Files\GoogleMaps” (if installed in an external memory card).
4. Delete any remaining files under “\Application Data\GoogleMaps” (if installed in the internal memory) or “\Storage Card\Application Data\GoogleMaps” (if installed in an external memory card).
5. After that, re-install the latest version from m.google.com/maps
o Some users may see scrambled text upon loading Maps for mobile the first time after installation. Please try rebooting your phone first and seeing if this issue persists.

Samsung Mobile Announces Samsung Comeback and Gravity2 for T-Mobile USA

Complete with full QWERTY keyboards, T9 predictive text and auto word completion, Samsung Mobile and T-Mobile USA today announced their latest text-friendly messaging phones

The Samsung Comeback, available in pearl white plum or frost silver cherry, is a stylish messaging phone with a unique side-flip that reveals its full QWERTY keyboard. The Comeback takes messaging to the extreme with access to E-mail and text, picture, video and instant messaging. A built-in 2-megapixel camera with digital zoom and T-Mobile’s 3G network allows users to send pictures or upload images to their favorite social networking sites. The Comeback also features a MP3 player and support for up to 16 GB of expandable memory.

Similar to the Samsung Gravity that launched last year, the Samsung Gravity 2 also features a horizontal, slide-out QWERTY keyboard and boasts a thinner, sleeker design. The Gravity 2 offers a pair of fun color options – berry mauve and metallic pumpkin, multiple messaging capabilities, a 2-megapixel camera and camcorder, a built-in MP3 player and expandable memory up to 16GB.

The Samsung Comeback are currently available at T-Mobile, the Gravity 2 will be available in August.

Sprint’s Samsung Reclaim M560 messaging phone pictured

Not long after releasing the Samsung Exclaim, Sprint is now getting ready to introduce another messaging phone made by Sammy, namely the Samsung Reclaim M560 (previously knonw as Samsung Chianti).

Apparently targeted at young mobile users, the Reclaim M560 is a slider with a full QWERTY keyboard.

According to Phone Arena, the handset also features a 2.3 inch landscape QVGA display, GPS, 2MP camera, and “environment friendliness.” A 3.5mm headset jack seems to be included as well, but we can’t be sure about this for now.

Samsung Reclaim M560 should be available from Sprint starting August 16, in two color versions: blue and green (as seen in the images above). The phone’s price is not known at the moment.

Telus intros the Motorola Rival; Fido gets the Nokia 1661

Already available in the US via Verizon, Motorola Rival a455 is a messaging phone that features a full QWERTY keyboard, a 2.2 inch display with 176 x 220 pixels, Telus Navigator, Bluetooth, 3.5mm headset jack, Music player, 2MP camera, 130MB of internal memory and MicroSD card support.

Telus sells the Motorola Rival for as low as $99.99 with a contract agreement for 3 years. The carrier offers buyers the “chance to win a day with Universal Recording artist Shiloh”, plus three Shiloh songs (for a limited time).

Fido’s new phone, the Nokia 1661, is a basic candybar that features a 1.8 inch TFT display with 128 x 160 pixels, FM radio and flashlight. The phone is available online – for free with a 2-yr contract, or for $55 on prepay.

Samsung Reclaim M560 announced by Sprint alongside green initiatives

Sprint and Samsung Mobile USA have just announced the Samsung Reclaim M560, touted as “the first phone in the US constructed from eco-friendly bio-plastic materials.”

The Reclaim is a messaging phone made from 80% recyclable materials and coming in two colors versions: Earth Green and Ocean Blue.

The phone’s features include a sliding QWERTY keyboard, QVGA display, Sprint Navigation with Search, access to corporate and personal email, Stereo Bluetooth, Web browser, 2MP camera with video recording, and MicroSDHC card support (up to 32GB).

Samsung Reclaim has no paper-made user manual. Instead, a virtual manual will be accessible at this address

Sprint will sell the Reclaim starting August 16, for $49.99 with a 2-yr contract agreement (after a $30 instant rebate and a $50 mail-in rebate). According to Sprint, “$2 of the proceeds will benefit The Nature Conservancy’s Adopt an Acre program, which supports land conservation across the United States and protects some of the world’s most beautiful and important natural habitats.”

The Samsung Reclaim will also be available at Wal-Mart, but only starting September.

HTC Touch Pro2 details appear at Sprint’s website

Although it wasn’t released in June, as rumored, Sprint’s HTC Touch Pro2 is getting really close to an official announcement.

Some of its specs have appeared at Sprint’s official website, so we can hope that it won’t be long until the smartphone is launched.

As expected, Sprint’s Touch Pro2 is not too different from T-Mobile’s one, and neither from the European version.

Also known as HTC Rhodium, the Windows Mobile 6.1 handset comes with a 480 x 800 pixels touchscreen display, sliding QWERTY keyboard, GPS, Wi-Fi, 3.2MP camera, and “international quadband” – meaning that it has both GSM and CDMA connectivity.

No word yet about the price of HTC Touch Pro2 from Sprint. However, you should know that the carrier is currently selling the first-generation Touch Pro for $299 on contract.

CDMA Motorola W562 surfaces; headed to China

The same day when Motorola unveiled the pictureless MOTO W403, we’ve spotted another new Moto phone, namely the W562.

Unlike the W403, Motorola W562 is a CDMA handset that will be soon launched by China Telecom.

The phone appears both at Motorola China’s website, and at the Bluetooth SIG (where it’s said that it could reach not only for Asia, but also the Americas and Europe).

The W562 is a candybar with a decent design and external music controls (resembling Nokia’s XpressMusic phones):

Samsung to launch Android phones priced at “well under $100″?

Today, during the announcement of Sprint’s eco-friendly Samsung Reclaim in the US, a Samsung official said that, by next year, Android touchscreen phones would be available “for well under $100.”

According to the New York Times, the statement was made by Casey Ryan, product manager for the new Reclaim phone at Samsung.

Now, we don’t know if he was talking about free of contract phones, or subsidized phones, but it’s probably the latter case. Which is still great – an Android phone sold for, let’s say, $50 on contract would probably be an instant hit.

Exact details about the upcoming cheap Android devices were not given, so I guess that we should wait for 2010 to see what it brings.

At the moment, the cheapest Android phone on the US market costs 149.99 with a 2-yr contract agreement (the T-Mobile G1).

Nokia N86 NAM to ship on August 22 for $499

Announced by Nokia last month, the N86 8MP NAM will be available in the US a bit later than expected: starting August 22, when the phone’s black version will ship to retailers.

The good news is that the N86 8MP will be sold for $499 – a price lower than the one Nokia has previously announced ($558).

As you probably already know, N86 is Nokia’s only 8MP camera phone. Camera aside, its features are kind of similar to the ones of Nokia N85, including a 2.6 QVGA AMOLED screen, GPS, Wi-Fi, and a 3.5mm headset jack.

At this point, no US carrier has announced its interest to sell the Nokia N86 8MP, so US customers will have to buy it unlocked, at the price already mentioned ($499).

Apple’s iPhone confirmed for Korea via KTF

Good news for South Korean mobile users, who will soon be able to buy Apple’s iPhone 3G S via KTF, the country’s second largest carrier.

Kim Yeon-hak, KT Group’s CFO, has confirmed that they are bringing the highly popular smartphone to Korea, although without disclosing the exact release date.

The price of the iPhone from KTF was also not announced, but it will probably be similar to the one in the US – $200 for the 16GB version and $300 for the 32GB one (both available with a contract agreement, of course).

SK Telecom, South Korea’s largest mobile operator, is also in talks with Apple for the iPhone. However, they have not confirmed a deal yet.

Verizon’s Touch Diamond2 leaked; HTC Mega and Tachi also show up

Verizon Wireless has recently dropped the prices of its HTC Touch Diamond and Touch Pro, so we’re expecting the carrier to launch the Touch Diamond2 and the Touch Pro2 in the near future.

We’ve seen Verizon’s Touch Pro2 back in May, and now it’s time to take a looks at its Touch Diamond2, also known as HTC Whitestone or XV6975.

Appeared over at WMExperts, this below is the first clear rendering of Verizon’s Diamond2. I’m a bit surprised that it looks quite different from the European version of the handset:

It’s said that the features of the Verizon Diamond2 include:

* Windows Mobile 6.1 (most probably upgradeable to Windows Mobile 6.5)
* GSM and CDMA connectivity
* 3.6 inch WVGA touchscreen display
* GPS and A-GPS
* 5MP camera with autofocus
* Qualcomm 7600 processor at 528MHz
* 512MB ROM and 256MB RAM

The release date of Verizon’s Touch Diamond2 is believed to be around September / October.

Amazon Creates Shopping Application for Android

Amazon.com announced the release of its latest mobile shopping application, “Amazon App for Android”, which is available as a free download to a user’s device in Android Market. The application includes the experimental Amazon Remembers feature that gives Android users two different ways to use their device camera to find and remember items available for sale on Amazon.com: they can either snap a photo of an item or scan a barcode, and then receive a product match.

Amazon Remembers is available on Amazon’s family of shopping applications, including the Amazon App for iPhone and iPod Touch, the Amazon App for BlackBerry, and now on the Amazon App for Android. Using the Amazon App for Android, customers can snap a photo of a product or scan a barcode for a fun and easy way to build a list of photographs showing products they want to remember for later, make price comparisons across multiple merchants, and purchase products from Amazon.com and thousands of other retailers on the Amazon.com site.

Garmin Asus nuvifone Coming to the America in Q4 2009

Remember that nuvifone handset from Garmin Asus? In case you don’t hate it yet for being so late then you might get all excited (again) when we tell you it’s coming to North America sometime in the fourth quarter of the year. According to Garmin, the phone is currently being tested by more U.S. carriers and it’s expected to be launched in Q4. We don’t have any carrier names yet and we don’t know how much the nuvifone will cost. But would you buy a phone that was expected to hit the streets more than six months ago? Wouldn’t you rather get something totally new?

AT&T Upcoming Handsets Revealed

Remember that Sprint leaked document we showed you yesterday? Well it looks like someone from AT&T decided to match Sprint’s leaking process and has therefore revealed some interesting handsets which are in the pre-launch phase. Among those we couldn’t help but notice the BlackBerry 9700, the HTC Tilt 2 and the Tilt 2 without a camera, that elusive Garmin Nuvifone G60, the HTC Pure aka Snap and plenty of others. Samsung phones, Pantech and Nokia phones are also coming soon, so if you’re rooting for AT&T then sit nicely and wait. Some amazing phones are heading your way.

Archos 2 Vision PMP

Underworld Concert Streamed to the iPhone

It’s not going to be the first event streamed to the iPhone but it’s still worth mentioning. British techno duo Underworld is the band in question and its concert from Oakland California was streamed straight to those interested iPhones out there. This was probably the first live event streamed to the iPhone and the technology employed was the iPhone OS 3.0’s HTTP streaming and the Quicktime player. Have you virtually attended the concert? Samsung Honey Bubble SPH-W8700 announced

Samsung revealed today in South Korea their new 3G phone, the Honey Bubble SPH-W8700. The phone will feature a 2 mega-pixel panoramic camera, along with video recording capabilities. Potential video calling is also mentioned.

The SPH-W8700 also features a DMB Digital TV tuner, Bluetooth, an MP3 player, a Subway Map, M-Commerce, GPS, dictionary, and SOS Siren Alarm.

No word on a release date for the new phone yet.

T-Mobile Touch Pro 2 pricing leaked

We recently spotted an AT&T version of the Touch Pro 2 today, but we also found out that the T-Mobile Touch Pro 2 has been priced, as revealed by a leaked pricing chart. Consumers will have the option to purchase the phone for $349.99 with a lengthy two-year contract, or alternatively go with another mobile service provider for a $549.99.

This pricing is not confirmed by anyone official, but the listings do sound pretty realistic, seeing all the features the phone boasts. The T-Mobile Touch Pro 2 is set to launch this Wednesday. We’ll keep you updated on any confirmations from either HTC or T-Mobile.

Deposit checks with iPhone photos

Here’s a new and interesting concept — A bank by the name of USAA has recently released an updated version of their iPhone app that will actually let users deposit checks without ever leaving their home.

How it works is you take a picture of the front and the back of your check, using the iPhone’s built-in camera, upload the pictures and that’s it, you’re done. A minor catch is that you have to be eligble for credit or hold insurance through USAA for this to work but otherwise, the system seems flawless.

Let’s hope other banks who have iPhone apps, like Bank of America, begin utilizing a similar system.

Motorola Morrison specs and release date leaked?

Not too long ago we got our first glimpse of Motorola’s debut Android device entitled the Morrison. However, at the time, specs and a release date were still unknown.

Today, we bring you a list of supposedly leaked specs along with a release date of October 21st. Included below are the leaked specs:

Everyone hates traffic jams. But while we can always check the news, here is something that iPhone owners can turn to especially if they are in a hurry or always on the go. The new app is TrafficTweet for the iPhone from Mobomo, an app that provides people an easier way of knowing real-time traffic conditions in any U.S. city. The TrafficTweet app relies heavily on public Twitter feeds from the Twitter community.

Huawei C7300 and T550+ in China

Huawei is preparing for the launch of the C7300 and T550+ in China and has released some specifications for the phones.

The first phone, the C7300, has a 2.5 inch QVGA touchscreen display with 65k colors, GPS, handwriting recognition, 2MP camera, MP3 player and MicroSD card support. It’s a CDMA2000, which will mean it will probably be launched through China Telecom.

The second phone, the T550+, supports both TD-SCDMA and GSM, and will launch through China Mobile. Most of the features from the C7300 transfer over to the T550+.

No word on pricing or release date have been announced.

BlackBerry Curve 8520 now available, free on Vodaphone qualifying plans

Vodaphone has announced today that the BlackBerry Curve is now available through its mobile service. The phone boasts a 2.0 megapixel camera, WiFi connectivity, a 3.5mm stereo headset jack, and a microSD memory card slot.

The BlackBerry Curve 8520 is available from Vodafone UK for free on two-year contracts that cost £25 per month or more. Vodafone Corporate and Public Sector customers will have the opportunity to purchase it for £185.

Palm unhappy about Pre Android theme

Just moments after finding out that the Palm Pre was tracking you, Palm has pulled another move that is sure to have some people shaking their fists in anger. Reportedly, they company has set their sights on the creators of the Palm Pre Android Theme that does just that, reskins your Android UI to look like a Palm Pre.

Of course, we can’t get too mad at Palm about this considering the graphics used in the Android theme were taken straight out of webOS, in other words they were copyrighted. Luckily, Palm has no intentions to lay down the law any further if the makers of said theme without hostility.

HTC ships 1 million Magic handsets

HTC’s CEO Peter Chou has recently stepped forward to let us know that his company has officially sold over 1 million HTC Magics to date. If you’re scratching your head looking at the above device associated with the name Magic, it’s because branded it’s called the T-Mobile myTouch 3G in the United States.

Furthermore, Chou went on to say that HTC will focus their efforts on releasing more mid-range sub $300 smart phones onto the market for the rest of 2009. In fact, he hopes to have 50-60% of all of HTC’s handset shipments fall into the mid-range category.

Just as we had learned at the end of the July, T-Mobile has put HTC’s Touch Pro2 handset up for sale for $349.99 with a 2 year contract.

This device features a Qualcomm 528MHz processor, 3.6-inch touchscreen, full QWERTY keyboard, 3.2MP camera with auto focus, GPS, WiFI, a microSDHC slot and Windows Mobile 6.1 with TouchFLO 3D.

While the Touch Pro2’s features make it a very capable handset, it’s $349.99 price tag could potentially turn some consumers away.

Nimbuzz multi community IM app hits Android

Social networking is a big part of the day for many mobile phone users around the world. I know some people that get up, start posting to Twitter or Facebook, and continue to do so for the remainder of the day.

Many people also use the IM capability of many social networking sites to chat with friends. A new application called Nimbuzz is now available for Android devices that allows the user to IM across several social networks from within the app.

Features include a smart buddy list, Skype and local social network support, and a time sensitive user interface. Other features include home screen notifications, auto-reconnect, and clickable urls. The app supports Skype, Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, ICQ, Google Talk, AIM, and social networks including Facebook and MySpace.

Google Mobile gets local with iPhone 3.0

Mobile Safari joins Android and BlackBerry browsers in getting location awareness with Google, using GPS or Wi-Fi triangulation to figure out what food, stores, or other goodies are nearby when you search.

As with its counterparts, the location setting sticks with the browser until you hit update, or it happens to notice you’ve moved locales. Google says it doesn’t pull location data unless you allow it at the prompt—two prompts on an iPod touch, actually—and the location feature can be disabled from the Preferences link at the main Google page.

HTC Release New Hotfix for HTC Touch Pro2 on SMS Issue

If you are having problem in sending sms to mobile number that needs a “+” prefix in front, you will most likely need this hot fix to use the sms messaging with the TouchFLO 3D interface. HTC has posted a list of the application ROM version here, you will also need to re-apply the hotfix whenever you hard reset your phone.

It didn’t happen in June, and neither in July, but it will definitely happen this month: Bell Mobility and Palm have just announced the release of Palm Pre across Canada, starting August 27.

The long-awaited webOS smartphone will cost $199.95 with a 3-yr agreement, or $599.95 free of contract (a minimum 500 MB data plan is required).

As you can see, the pricing is similar to Sprint’s offering in the US – of course, the main difference is that Sprint has 2-yr contracts instead of 3-yr ones.

Canadian customers can already preorder the Palm Pre, via Bell’s official website.

BlackBerry Curve 8520 announced by Airtel for India

Airtel, India’s largest mobile carrier (about 100 million customers) has announced the upcoming availability of RIM’s brand new BlackBerry Curve 8520 (also known as BlackBerry Gemini).

Indian customers will be able to buy the smartphone starting August 7, at the retail price of 15,990 INR (about $336).

The 8520 is the only (for now) BlackBerry Curve to have an optical trackpad instead of RIM’s traditional trackball.

Nokia Ovi Files is now Mac compatible

Initially available only for Windows, Ovi Files is now compatible with Mac too, thanks to the newly-released Ovi Files Macintosh Connector.

This lets users accomplish everything they can accomplish with the Ovi Files PC Connector.

For example, you can remotely access files stored on your Mac (with OS X 10.5 Leopard), via either a mobile phone, or a web browser.

Moreover, you can send files to friends (regardless if they use Ovi or not), and use the Anytime Files feature for creating “an on-line mirror of content stored on your Mac.”

Announced by Samsung in only one color version (black), the Android-powered Galaxy i7500 will apparently have a white version too.

The white Samsung Galaxy has just appeared in some live pictures at the::unwired, together with the rumor that it will be launched by O2 in Germany, and by other carriers across Europe.

Apart from the different-looking case, the white Samsung Galaxy is similar to the black version. Which means that it features a 3.2 inch HVGA AMOLED touchscreen display, 5MP camera, Wi-Fi, GPS, 3.5mm headset jack and Android 1.5 OS.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 on Vodafone UK in April

O2 is not the only carrier that will offer the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 in the UK. Vodafone will sell the X10, too.

The Xperia X10 has appeared on Vodafone UK’s official website, in the coming soon section, and it looks like it will be available for purchase starting April.

The handset’s price is not mentioned. However, since smartphones like the Nokia N900 and BlackBerry Bold 9700 are offered by Vodafone for free on contract (with expensive voice and data plans), the X10 should also be free on select plans.

In case you don’t know yet, the Xperia X10 features Android 1.6, a 4 inch WVGA touchscreen display, HSPA, GPS, Wi-Fi, 8MP autofocus camera, and a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.

Google Earth has landed for Android 2.1

After launching the Nexus One smartphone, Google realised that it would be a pity to let all that potential go to waste and put the 1GHz processor and 3D graphics to good use, by launching Google Earth for Android. This is the fastest version of the software, with smooth framerate and 800 x 480 resolution supported.

Together with this release, Google launched the Roads layer, already available in the desktop version of Google Earth. This option allows users to see the roads they’re driving on, placed on top of satellite imagery, for better orientation. Voice recognition is also used in Google Earth for Android, through a feature that looks like a pocket globe, responding to the user’s commands.

For example, saying “Eiffel Tower” or “a hotel in the San Francisco area” will take you to the desired results, thanks to the technology of Google Search by Voice and Google Local Search. Just like the other Google Earth versions, this software allows you to browse photos, places and businesses, while clicking icons for more info.

Symbian^3 is coming to the market in 2010, that’s for sure, but does it have what it takes to brings the platform to a new level? Apparently, the first devices running it will be available starting Q3 and what we have below is a live demo of the OS. It runs on a laptop and not on a phone, being manipulated in front of a live audience.

Symbian^3 looks very much like a modern smartphone environment should, which is good news, but still Symbian^4 will be the game changer, specially as far as multitouch is concerned. The homescreen has been upgraded and it’s very widget-friendly, allowing customization, new homescreens to be added and more.

RIM BlackBerry 'T' (Talladega?) slider launching next month

The first sliding BlackBerry, AKA Tallageda (or T), could be winging its way to shelves as soon as April.

Mobilephone-news has reported that the CEO of a RIM supplier mentioned the BlackBerry T as a device to launch next month.

The claim appeared on joins.com, a Korean website and was translated as:

"The Canadian company RIM famous for BlackBerry smartphones is releasing a new model next month. Known as the "T," The new model is an ambitious product aimed at competing against iPhone's storm of success. RIM will present it ("T") as its flagship model to compete in global markets such as the U.S. and Europe."

This could of course point to another Storm device, rather than the Palm-style slider that everyone is raving about.

There's no information on a precise release date for the BlackBerry Talladega or 'T', or whether it will be available in the UK any time soon.

Great news recently reported over at 3g.co.uk in relation to the HTC Hero Smartphone.

It seems that HTC have now confirmed that the HTC Hero will be upgraded to the latest Android version which is 2.1, currently the device runs on version 1.6 of the Android OS but the upgrade will bring it right up to date.

What is surprising is that with the upgrade there is very little difference between the HTC Hero and the HTC Legend which is about to launch later on this month. When you take into consideration that the Hero has be3en available for a much longer period and is available on multiple networks it may well offer users better value than the Legend.

Those of you that are currently on Orange or T Mobile will be able to upgrade your Hero to Android 2.1 from April 16th those on 3 will need to wait until 22nd April. Android 2.1 will give the ability to have 5 different home screens and a quick contact which makes things easier t switch between contacts and social network contacts.

Nexus One Success Could Threaten Verizon

An interesting article over at feelandroid.com gives us something to think about in relation to the Nexus One and possible threat to Verizon.

We now all know that the Google Nexus One will not debut directly with Verizon and so therefore will not be available through the largest US carrier.

The question being asked though is will the Nexus One pose a threat to Verizon if it is successful, bearing in mind that is pretty much what the model is all about.

It is about liberating customers from the 2 year standard carrier contracts and give the option to pay upfront and be able to walk away at any point, so far Nokia have failed with the unsubsidised model and we are all used to paying a little up front for Smartphones and that is what Google is attempting to change.

SlingPlayer marketing manager Dave Eyler today confirmed that his company is working on a version of SlingPlayer for the iPad. Sling Media had previously committed on a native app for several platforms and said that on other platforms–mobile included–that a Flash app would be used.

The party under the radar says that “they are actively moving towards the H.264” which points to none other than Windows Phone 7 Series. Sling Media wants to make sure that the iPad gets the best of what SlingPlayer has to offer. Sling is working on some interesting developments such as “actively moving towards H.264?, Silverlight support, in addition to the streaming with resolutions beyond the current output of 320 x 240. No timetable or any WP7-specific features were revealed in the early tease.

iPhone HD Coming Soon?

Apple could be set to release the iPhone HD later this year, according to a new video ‘uncovered’ by a tech fan. John Gruber from Daring Fireball went on to dispense some information he has heard about the next iPhone.
He informed that It will be based on the A4-family CPU system (meaning it would be part of the same CPU family as the iPad). The resolution would be doubled to 960×640. Also, it would sport a second front-facing camera and support third-party multitasking

So far, all of Apple’s smartphones and handhelds have have had a 3.5-inch display, but the next-generation will supposedly have one that is about 3.7 inches.
Engadget also reports that the iPhone HD (or whatever it ends up being called), will be announced on Tuesday, June 22. Historically, this date falls in line with past iPhone release dates.

Palm's AT&T launch pushed back to summer?

Palm is not exactly in te best of financial situations considering their flagship device, the Pre, failed to become a national phenomenon as they had hoped. However, a ray of hope came for the company when talks about bringing the devices to AT&T arose. The Pre and Pixi were in fact rumored to be hitting AT&T as early as next month but that may have been halted.

Reports have arose that say AT&T has found some problems with the Pre and Pixi and are delaying the launch of the devices until June or July. And, to make things even worse, AT&T has reportedly decreased their initial order from Palm and cut back on their marketing budget for the two devices.

Don’t worry Palm, I think the Pre is cool.

A second Windows Phone 7 Series phone has leaked on the internet, although details are pretty scant.

The recent photos appeared on mobilenews, following the announcement of the LG Panther Windows Phone 7 Series powered device last week.

Details of the un-named LG device reveal a multitouch screen, presumably 800x480 pixels and a verically sliding Qwerty keyboard that resembles the one on the Palm Pre.

Other features include a 1GHz processor and 8GB internal memory.

Details have recently been removed, so we don't have any details about a possible release date or network availability.

HTC Desire, Galaxy Portal & Xperia X10 Hit Virgin Mobile

Virgin Media has begun bulking up its Android-arsenal with the addition of the HTC Desire – the HTC-branded Nexus One –, the Samsung Galaxy Portal and Sony Ericsson’s sharp-shooting Xperia X10.

So far, the only device listed on the Virgin Media site is the Galaxy Portal, which is available for free on an 18 month contract with 250 minutes, as well as unlimited data and texts, for £22 per month.

The HTC Desire, which should be coming to the UK in the next couple of weeks, is essentially the Nexus One – just with HTC’s Sense UI.

AT&T is finally filling out its Android roster this year. The Android phone is going to be called the “Dell Aero.” the Aero is Dell’s first smartphone in the US, and will feature a “new, custom user interface” developed by Dell and AT&T. The phone will run Google Inc.’s Android software.

Details and specifications are sketchy for now. The Aero offers a 5 megapixel camera, a 3.5-inch nHD display, GPS, and WiFi support. The Aero also sports Dell’s custom Android user interface.

The phone integrates with Flickr, Facebook, Picassa, YouTube, and TwitPic on the software level, allowing you to easily share the clips and photos you take. Social integration is another innovation that stems from AT&T’s close co-operation with Dell’s engineers. According to AT&T, the Aero packs in a number of social networking apps, including Facebook that is “fully integrated into your phonebook and syncs events to your calendar.”

Exact specs haven’t been named for the Aero, although many have speculated that its hardware matches that of the Dell Mini 3i, which launched in China in 2009.

Palm Pre Plus, Pixi Plus may hit O2 in April

The Tracy and Matt phone blogspot states that O2 could be the U.K. The two handsets are rumored by TracyAndMatt to ship in April after the App Catalog is out of Beta stage in Europe. O2 have already been offering the GSM version of the Palm Pre for some months now, but so far the Pixi is yet to make an appearance outside of the US.

Most of the features of Palm Pre Plus are also same as Pixi with a few enhancements like QWERY keyboard silently slides under the 3.1 display with HVGA capability and camera is also upgraded to 3 MP camera when compared to 2.0 mega pixel camera of Pixi.
Palm Pre Plus and Pixi Plus phone are provides video recording capabilities via webOS 1.4. The Pixi Plus gets 8GB of storage and WiFi (unlike the original Pixi, which lacked WiFi), while the Pre Plus has 16GB of storage and double the RAM of its predecessor.

HTC HD2 won’t get Windows Phone 7 Series

If you’re an HTC HD2 owner who was hoping to get their device upped to Windows Phone 7 Series prepare to be disappointed. Microsoft’s Joe Belfiore has just told us that the HD2 is “not compliant with the Windows Phone 7 Series hardware specifications” and therefore will not be getting upped to Windows Phone 7 Series.

Samsung Jet Ultra Edition on the UK

The Samsung Jet 2 was recently presented in India, and a similar cellphone with few different features was also presented in the UK with the codename Samsung Jet Ultra Edition. The device will be sold via the O2 network for an unknown price so far.

Specification-wise the Samsung Jet Ultra Edition comes with a 3.1-inch WVGA touchscreen and the TouchWiz 2.0 user-interface. Besides WiFi and GPS, it also has a browser with the cool one-finger zoom feature and even supports Flash. For the photos and videos there is a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and dual LED, and the data can be stored in the internal memory of 2GB, or on a microSD memory card. The Jet Ultra Edition can playback video and audio files, be it on DivX, on MP3, or on many other formats.

Nexus One Now Available For AT&T And Rogers

I’ve heard that the Nexus One is being considered a failure due to its 125,000 worth of sales.

Perhaps there will be a Nexus One sales rise since it is now available for 3G on AT&T and Rogers networks. It is available on Google’s store for $529, but hey, you can also get it unlocked and use it with a SIM card.

Anyway, if this deal floats your boat, you should probably let them float it.

PayPal releases an updated iPhone app

The PayPal app for iPhones has to be one of the important apps to have and thanks to a new feature, users can now easily move from one account to another by simply tapping two devices together. This is the Bump integration which recently opened up the platform and updated its own app with bump-to-friend Facebook buddy functionality.

Sprint Nexus One

Google's first self-branded smartphone will soon be available on each of the four major cellular networks in the U.S.

Sprint just officially announced the impending arrival of Google Nexus One, though it neglected to reveal pricing or a release date. Details will likely become somewhat clearer at next week's CTIA conference.

Google's attempt to sell the Nexus One directly to consumers has been a bust so far. With versions covering all four carriers however, the sleek smartphone has a much better chance of being noticed. Even still, a bit of advertising certainly wouldn't hurt.

The Google Nexus One features a 3.7-inch touchscreen, a 1GHz Snapdragon processor and Android 2.1, and is already available for T-Mobile and AT&T. A Verizon Wireless-compatible version will become available sometime this spring.

Sprint to Unveil HTC Supersonic, First 4G Phone Next Week

The Wall Street Journal says Sprint will let loose the oft-leaked HTC Supersonic next week at CTIA, and that it will be the carrier's first WiMAX-enabled Android device.

The device is expected to be the centerpiece of a presentation made by Chief Executive Dan Hesse during the CTIA Wireless trade show Tuesday. Sprint and HTC declined to comment.

The touch-only MOTOBLUR smart phone features Flash-enabled software for web browsing, pinch and zoom multi-touch, and Swype. Putting the HTC Tattoo side-by-side with the HTC Nexus One will really make anyone realize at how they target two ends of the extreme spectrum of the market. On one side you've got this souped up high-end smartphone that gadget lovers dream about in their sleep, while on the other you see one that's there for someone who doesn't want to spend a fortune in moving up to a smartphone.

From the looks of it though, the HTC Tattoo with its less than over-imposing specs, is going to see the latest Android 2.1 update down the road. HTC said in a statement, “Kindly note that now we understand that a phone running Android OS 2.1 is available that you are excited to get an update for your Tattoo. We are still working hard to Sense for building this new version but we expect to have the upgrade finished and ready to go soon. Please understand that it takes time to customize any Android release to Ensure You Have The Sense provides intuitive experience, and we hope you can be patient for just a little while longer.” This goes to show how much more time is required if a handset does not offer the stock Google experience out of the box – assuming that it's the price to pay for owners who prefer a customized experience. Nonetheless, HTC Tattoo owners can really stick it to some of its higher end counterparts when Android 2.1 makes its arrival.

iPhone OS 4.0 to Finally Bring Multitasking

Apple has come a long way to make up for some of the shortcomings of the iPhone. One major function that the handset cannot do is multitask, but with the release of the 4.0 OS, that might no longer be a problem for users. Tipsters with a track record of being on target in predicting Apple's technological advances are saying that Apple has developed the technology to allow for simultaneous running of third party apps. The Cupertino based firm has developed a method to handle things like security, memory and battery life in a way to make multitasking feasible. Part of the solution is being lifted from the Mac OS X operating system. The word is that the iPhone 4.0 OS still has a way to go before being ready for the handset and more workneeds to be done before the software is released..

The current iPhone OS prevents third party apps from running in the background. This is why the phone cannot multitask. Apps that come bundled with the device can run in the background while another app is running. The problem is that the iPhone OS' security model is designed to close open programs whenever the user returns to the home screen or answers a phone call. This prevents malware, spyware or viruses from running without the user knowing about it. Of course, it also prevents the phone from multitasking. In the past, other OS upgrades were rumored to contain a multitasking function, but it never came to fruition. Perhaps this time will be the charm.

Google Nexus One shows up at Vodafone UK's website

With US consumers really getting their fill on the HTC Nexus One, our friends on the other side of the big pond will soon see the arrival of Google's flagship Android phone. Since its unveiling back in January, it was confirmed that the Nexus One was coming to Vodafone UK some time in the spring; specifically it was scheduled for an April release.

From the looks of it though, the Nexus One has finally landed on Vodafone UK's web site with a “coming soon” attached to it – early adopters planning on snatching up the phone can register to get updates about the handset. Even better news are on the horizon as it's expected to make some waves with a possible release before the month of March is over. Despite the anticipation starting to simmer from Vodafone customers awaiting for the Nexus One, there is still no official price announced for the smartphone – but it's speculated to land in at €150 with a 2 year contract. Fortunately for Vodafone UK customers, they'll also be treated with another Android 2.1 device with the HTC Legend that's coming soon as well.

LG GD350 Phone reach Russian market

Flip handsets will continue to see a stylish appeal to them as long as LG continues their commitment in manufacturing these some times forgotten form factors. Here in the US, we've been treated to a bunch of stylish phones like the LG Chocolate and LG Shine that does exude a high level of workmanship that's sometimes reserved to smartphones nowadays.

Russia will soon see yet another stylish handset from the Korean based manufacturer as LG Electronics plans on introducing the LG GD350 into that market. Although the specs may not really make you jump out of your seat, its appeal lies in its head turning design with an all black paint job with gold accents highlighting the handset. The LG GD350 features an external display with red LEDs for notifications, 2-megapixel camera, FM radio, Bluetooth, and an 800 mAh battery – all of the modern specs we see out of this category of mobile phones. The flip phone factor usually finds itself in the entry-level segment and really doesn't get the love it deserves sometimes, but the LG GD350 will continue LG's focus on still keeping this segment fresh – it will be going for 5490 rubles ($186) in Russia.
